Spot job scams
Take time to check an offer before sending money or sensitive information. Scammers can impersonate real employers and advertise on familiar job sites.
Warning signs to take seriously
- Someone demands payment to secure a job or promises guaranteed employment for a fee.
- A supposed employer sends a check and asks you to buy equipment, send money back, or purchase gift cards.
- An offer promises unusually high earnings for very little work, or asks you to receive and reship packages from home.
These examples follow the FTC’s job scam guidance.
Check the employer independently
Find the company’s official website yourself and check its careers page. Contact the company through independently found contact details to confirm an unexpected recruiter or offer. A familiar logo or company name alone does not verify who contacted you.
If something seems wrong
Pause before responding or sending more information. Follow the FTC guidance below for next steps. If you already sent money, contact the payment provider promptly and ask whether it can reverse the transaction.
For a listing on Role Crawler, use “Report this job” on its detail page. That sends the listing to our review queue; it does not file a report with the FTC.
